The history of the French kiss

Before Americans started describing kissing with tongues as being French, we already had a ‘French kiss’. According to Vaughn Bryant Jr, professor and head of the Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M University and a specialist in the history of the kiss, the French kiss was born in the 5^th century BC in the Indian Kama Sutra. It was then brought to Europe by Alexander the Great and ultimately spread across the world. In the 18^th and 19^th centuries, American puritans landed in France and were shocked to discover this deep kiss, and more broadly France’s much freer morals.
